Brief Bio:

Ms. Tania James graduated from Harvard University in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in filmmaking. She received her Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia's School of the Arts in 2006. Her debut novel "Atlas of Unknowns" was published by Knopf in 2009, and was a finalist for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. "Atlas of Unknowns" was published in seven additional countries. Her work has been published in The New York Times, One Story magazine, Guernica, Elle India, and The Courier-Journal. She is based in Washington D.C. As a Fulbright-Nehru scholar Ms. James will be writing and researching a creative project revolving around women who have traveled across the country (and perhaps even the globe) to participate in the Indira Gandhi snake boat race, which takes place at Kochi, Kerala, in late December. The title of her research is "Wives, Daughters, Athletes: Women and the Snake Boat Races of Kerala."
